We Remember Chief Ron Augustine
Sunday, January 1, 2023

Ron Augustine, age 75, sadly passed away on December 31, 2022 after a short illness surrounded by family & friends. He was born on September 7, 1947 to Mary Lou & Reynold "Skinny" Augustine in Chester, PA before the family moved to Linwood, PA. Ron attended Chichester High School and graduated in 1966. He met and fell in forever love with his wife Kathy in 1967 and married in 1968. His son Gregory was his first born followed by his daughter Diane four years later. The family moved to Boothwyn, PA in 1974 then Ron & Kathy moved to Clayton, DE in 1993.

He became a volunteer fireman at age 15 at Linwood Fire Company, Engine 39. Ron was an extraordinary fireman who literally lived and breathed everything related to education about equipment and techniques to keep the community safe. He championed the acquisition of the Jaws of Life, being one of the first and only departments to have that apparatus.

His legendary service ultimately led him to receive the Chief Emeritus award in 2021; only one other recipient was recognized in over 106 years. He was an honorary member of Claymont Fire Department and was a current member of Clayton Fire Company.

Ron absolutely adored his family. He was a master crab steamer, best bon fire builder, body surfer, snow fighter when he worked for Del Dot and an overall great guy. He had a great smile. He loved a good joke, especially if it was at his expense. His sense of humor was special. He had stories for days and what was really mind boggling is they seemed like tall tales, but they were all true!

He was a great listener, offered advice when asked and brutally honest if you did. To say he will be missed is a massive understatement. Ron is loved by so many, it's difficult to imagine a world without him in it.
Ron was predeceased by his parents Reynold "Skinny" and Mary Louise Walker Augustine and his brother Joseph V. Augustine.

Survived by his beloved wife, Kathy (Clinger) Augustine, son, Greg Augustine, his daughter Diane Augustine (John Saraceno), nephew Joey Augustine(Sarah), great nephew Vincent, great niece Sophia, and countless extended family and friends.

A viewing and life celebration will be held on Sunday, January 8th from 1-3pm at the Clayton Fire Company, 300 East Street, Clayton, DE and on Monday, January 9th from 10:30-12:00pm at the Nolan Fidale Funeral Home 5980 Chichester Avenue, Aston, PA.
FUNERAL SERVICE will be Monday January 9, 2023 at 12:00pm at the Nolan-Fidale Funeral Home, Aston
