Passing of Past President & Life Member Robert W. Jones - Smyrna, DE

The CHC is saddened to announce that Past President & Life Member Robert "Bob" W. Jones passed away at KGH in Dover DE on Friday evening November 6, 2015. Bob was a Life Member of the CHC joining in Feb. of 1999, and he remained active up until the day of his passing. Bob served as Vice President in 2003 & 2004, and then served as President from 2004-2006. Bob was also involved in numerous committees including Fire Prevention in which he helped out greatly educating children of the community on fire safety. Bob's committment to helping the citizens of Smyrna/Clayton was not just with the CHC, he was also a Life Member and Past Ambulance Captain of the American Legion Ambulance Station 64 in Smyrna. He was also still very active at 64 up until his passing. Bob was also very active in educating future first responders as a primary instructor for most of the EMT & EMS classes held at the Delaware State Fire School in Dover for the last several years. Bob loved to teach and it showed with large number of EMT's in Delaware who can say they got their EMT card because of Bob. Bob was also a previous member of the the Elsmere Fire Company in Elsmere DE for several years. He started his career as a first responder in the mid 1960's while living in the area before moving out the district. The Officers and Members of the CHC extend their condolences to Bob's wife of 34 years Karen, his loving daughter Sarah, and the rest of his family. Bob and his never ending smile and dedication to helping to others will be greatly missed around the station and in the community. Details for Bob's services are as follows: A viewing will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2015 from 10am to 12pm in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main St. in Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 12pm. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery in Smyrna. This will be a full fireman’s funeral. The Citizens’ Hose Company will be wearing full Class A uniforms. Dress for attending companies will be left to the discretion of each individual company as the family has requested casual attire. Companies wishing to bring apparatus are to contact Past Chief Isaac Hankins at 302-363-4331 for staging information.
