House fire with fire showing - 96 King St., Smyrna Landing
Wednesday, October 21, 2015

At 1532 Kent Center dispatched CHC units along with Amb. 64, & KM-6 for a reported house fire on King Street in the community of Smyrna Landing. E44-2 under command of Asst. Chief Neeld responded within minutes of dispatch. Shortly after dispatch, CHC Past Chief Hankins arrived on scene and confirmed to Kent Center a working alarm with fire showing from the D-side. E44-2 dropped a supply line at the intersection of King St. & Rt. 6 for T-44 to pick-up. Upon arrival to the scene crews from E-2 pulled a line to the front door and after forcing entry to the front door made entry into the residence. Crews found no fire in the living area, but were able to determine there was still active fire in the attic area. The line was then placed into service on the exterior of the house to knock down the fire on the outside. Upon arrival of L-44 crews assisted with pulling a second handline, throwing ground ladders, and ventilating the roof. Crews were able to cut a hole in the roof for ventilation and were able to knock down the fire after getting on the porch roof and extinguishing it from the outside. Crews performed a primary and secondary search with negative findings. Crews remained on scene and performed overhaul to check for extension, and wet down the attic area. Crews from 44-3 & E53-4 assisted with overhaul operations. E53-4 was dispatched at request of command for an additional engine company to the scene. The scene was placed under control and crews remained on scene wetting down hot spots and assisting FM-28. The scene was eventually TOT FM-28 and all 44 units returned to quarters. Units responding: E44-2, T-44, L-44, E44-3, E53-4, A-64, KM-6, DSFM-28, DSP, & 44 Fire Police. 2nd Asst. Chief Dave Neeld had the command. Photos by CHC Past Chief & PIO Isaac J. Hankins
