At 1007 Sta. 44 units and A-64 were dispatched to a MVC in the 1100 block of Twin Willows Rd. for an unknown MVC with a car in the water. E44-4 responded at 1009 under command of 44-15, Chief Coulbourne. Rescue 44 and 44-10 with Marine 1 responded shortly after. Upon arrival units found DSP already on scene, and a car down the ditch into the creek area. It was unknown at the time if the car was occupied. Crews used a pike pole to tear out the back window of the car and were then able to look inside a see a victim floating in the back seat. 44-15 then requested ALS for a pronouncement. With the aide of a roof ladder to crawl out to the vehicle, half of KM6 crawled out onto the trunk of the car and was able to pronounce the victim. 44-15 placed the scene under control at 1032, and units remained on scene to assist DSP until the car was removed from the water with a wrecker. All 44 units were back in quarters at 1226. The CHC had 29 members respond, with units being in service for 2 hours and 17 minutes.
Units responding: E44-4, R-44, 44-10 with Marine 1, A-64, KM-6, KM-5, DelDot, TMC, DSP and DSP FAIR Team
According to DSP the car had been in the water since approximaely the night before. DSP had received calls about a possible accident but after an extensive search of the area were unable to find anything. The area that the vehicle was found in is a tidal marsh area, and water levels would have been at high tide during that time.
