Passing of Past President/Life Member Donald L. Uhlendorff

The Citizens’ Hose Company No. 1 Inc. of Smyrna, Delaware sadly announces the death of Past President and Life Member Donald L. Uhlendorff. Donnie played an active role in our company throughout his tenure, serving in many capacities. On the administrative side, he served as President, Vice President, Director and Trustee. On the fire side, Donnie was a lieutenant and for several years, a fire policeman. In addition, he also served for many years as the company’s uniform chairman. It was hard to miss Donnie at any parade, as he carried our banner down many streets and through many towns. It was rare for Donnie to miss a parade or any function – he was extremely active. _________________ Donald L. “Donnie” Uhlendorff, age 65, of Smyrna, Delaware, passed away at Kent General Hospital on May 6, 2015. He was born on July 6, 1949 in Dover, the son of Lewis F. and Margaret Kinsey Uhlendorff. A 1968 Smyrna High School Graduate, Donnie was a life-long entrepreneur in the insurance and auto industry, and was most proud of his long-term employment with the Willis Chevrolet family. A veteran of the United States Army and life-member and past-president of the Citizens Hose Fire Company, Donnie leaves behind a very proud legacy. Pre-deceased by his wife, Sue Dorman-Uhlendorff and his mother, Margaret Uhlendorff, Donnie is survived by his loving son, Jeff Springfield of Lewes, DE; son-in-law, Sherman Springfield; grandson, Tyler Springfield (the pride of his life); sister, Connie Keen and brother-in-law, Robert Keen of Smyrna; nephews, Brooks Keen and Michael Keen of Smyrna; father, Lewis Uhlendorff of Smyrna; several great-nieces and nephews, along with a multitude of dear friends, family and associates and was loved and cared for by long time friend, Chantal Garrison. Donnie loved to laugh, tell jokes and was the first person to give anything he had to anyone in need. His love and devotion will be greatly missed by many. A viewing will be held on Tuesday evening, May 12, 2015 from 6-9 pm and again on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at 11 am in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main Street in Smyrna. Funeral services will begin Wednesday at 12 pm. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Smyrna. In lieu of flowers, donations to Citizen Hose Fire Company, PO Box 97, Smyrna, DE 19977 are suggested. Condolence letters may be sent by visiting
